Tanks
Tanks
Tanks were first introduced in WW1
How it was used: |
how it works: |
They were used for greater mobility on the battlefield. Troops could ride out of their trenches and follow behind these metal giants and they would lead their way through no mans land to the enemy trenches and be protected them from the gun fire
|
|
a tank runs on caterpillar tracks like a conveyer belt. The engine runs on one or more steel sprockets, that move a track made up of a hundreds of metal links. The wheels move along the track just like regular wheels
|
when and where was the tank built?
the first tank took action on September 26th 1916 in the battle of flers courcelette
the impact of the tank in WW1
Things like barbed wire and machines guns and trenches had turned warfare into a process in which the defense had a huge advantage. Tanks changed that. They were able to drive over all sorts of terrain, including trenches and they were able to smash barbed wire.

Pros and cons
connections to today!tanks today have really changed since 1916. Back then they were used for cross no mans land getting to the enemy trench but now they are a lot different. Now they are a lot faster, being able to go up to 50 mph, in 1916 they went 4 mph. Now their armor is a lot better then what it was in World War One. Now they are used for combat so their guns are crazy good now.
